Colour and story are everywhere, and I feel (happily) compelled to capture the vibrancy of real life through expressive images. As a self-taught artist on a lifelong learning journey, I began in childhood and never gave up on the idea of staying in touch with art throughout my life. Snatched ideas along the way are now finding their way into today’s ideas, resulting in images that are sometimes representational, metaphorical or even abstract.
Plein air painting is a delightful and essential element in the creation of my works, which are predominantly in soft pastels and oils. In my compositions, I explore emotion, humour, questions and multiple views of the world I interact with. The Impressionists and many contemporary pastelists have been a key influence on my practice.
I am an active member of the Perth Plein Air Painters, the Pastel Society of WA, and the West Australian Society of Arts.
