Wattle Day 2025

Live Portrait Event

The Live Portrait event at the Old Mill Theatre has the town talking! Our thanks to Ann-Marie and Roger for generously offering the theatre stage to our artists. So impressive. Our portrait artists, take a bow, what a show. The atmosphere, the banter, the talent, was just magical. Thank you.

Let’s not forget the sitters. We are so grateful to Geoff Baker MLA and Pierre Sequeira, who gave their time so generously and left the stage both exhausted and exhilarated.

Our thanks also to Jana Vodesil-Baruffi and Steve Dyer for judging.

The highlight of the afternoon was the ovation our portrait artists received at the conclusion of the three-hour sitting, a moving moment that did not go unnoticed by the Old Mill Theatre. Congratulations to Sarah Pondevie, winner of the event, and to Andy Conlin, recipient of the People’s Choice Award.

It is such a delight to see our members embrace these events. They are vital not only to our society but also to the wider community. The feedback WASA has received from the South Perth community has been outstanding, and you should all feel proud.

Our Wattle Day celebrations were a huge success. Thank you to everyone who took part in the Plein Air and Live Portrait events. The feedback from the South Perth Historical Society has been absolutely glowing. A special thank you to Alison and the volunteers at Heritage House for hosting such a wonderful day, and to our committee for giving up their Saturday to make sure everything ran smoothly. Congratulations to Gordon Alexander for winning the Plein Air event and People’s choice award and to Alan Pickering for winning Highly Commended. I also heard that several of our artists sold their works on the day. Well done to all!.
