WASA Annual Awards Exhibition – 2025 “Portraiture in Giving”

Attention all WASA portraiture artists

We are thrilled to announce that the City of South Perth has awarded WASA a generous $5,000 grant. We are deeply grateful for their continued support in 2025.

As part of this initiative, WASA will present “Portraits in Giving” at our March Exhibition. This event will feature live portrait painting demonstrations by WASA members, who will create portraits of notable volunteers from the City of South Perth. Each volunteer will have the honour of selecting a portrait to take home.

You are invited to register your interest in being chosen as an artist for the Portraiture in Giving” at our Annual Awards Exhibition on Saturday, 22nd March (Time TBA). The WASA Terms and Conditions are below for your information.

The overall “People’s Choice” artist will be awarded $500.  If you are a WASA member keen to participate in this event, please contact vp@waart.org.au to register your interest by 24 January 2025.  

Terms and Conditions for WASA Portraiture in Giving Event
By participating in the WASA Portraiture in Giving Event, all participants (artists and volunteers) agree to the following terms and conditions:
Eligibility
a. All artists must be current, active members of WASA (Western Australian Society of Artists) at the time of the event.
Supplies and Equipment
a. Artists are required to supply their own equipment and art supplies, including but not limited to paints, paper, canvas, or board.
b. Artists must bring all materials necessary for creating a portrait within the event’s timeframe.
Event Structure
a. The event will be divided into three groups. Each group will consist of three artists and one model (volunteer).
b. Groups will be staggered in their start times. Group 1 will begin first, followed 30 minutes later by Group 2, and finally Group 3.
c. Audience members will have the opportunity to view the progress of each group at various stages of completion.
Portrait Selection
a. The model (volunteer) will select one portrait from their chosen artist to take home at the end of the event.
People’s Choice Award
a. A winner will be chosen by the public through a voting system as the People’s Choice Award.
b. All event attendees are eligible to vote for their favorite portrait.
Prize
a. The winning artist, as chosen by the public, will receive a prize of $500
Liability and Release
a. Artists participate in the event at their own risk. WASA is not responsible for any loss, damage, or injury incurred during the event.
b. Artists and models agree to allow their portraits and event images to be used by WASA for promotional purposes, both online and in print, without further consent or compensation.
Conduct
a. All participants must behave in a professional and respectful manner during the event. Any disruptive or inappropriate behavior may result in disqualification from the event.
By participating in the WASA Portraiture Event, all artists and volunteers acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to these terms and conditions.
