Award-winning local artist Jo’s inspiration lies in her love for the Australian landscape. Local bush and wetlands are of particular importance in her current work with a desire to highlight the importance of these urban parklands.

“Her strong sense of place grows from the wellspring of her childhood in Western Australia and shines in the cloudscapes and desert nocturnes that blur the line between memory and myth. Jo’s paintings transcend borders, illuminating the wonders of the firmament. The scale and expressionist freedom in Joanne Duffy’s work reflects the fact that the seed for each painting is planted by being in nature and often in the turmoil of the seasons.”

A successful exhibitor across the country, Jo’s work has been recognised in WA and interstate art prizes; with works held in private and public collections. Current achievements include being a finalist for the Busselton Art Award and The Mandorla Art Prize.

The last few years have seen successful solo exhibitions in Sydney at Rochfort Gallery and Linton& Kay at Mandoon Estate, despite the onslaught of Covid.

Represented by Rochfort Gallery (Sydney), Linton & Kay and The Studio Gallery.

Artist Statement

An expressionist at heart, key inspirations for my work lie in interpreting the emotional response to memories of landscape, and how this affects our character. The native flora and ancient landscapes are strong stimuli for investigating our senses’ response through colour, texture and movement. It is these remnants of experience which provides the key for interpretation of both personal and perceived experience.
