Wattle Day – Saturday 30th August Hosted by the South Perth Historical Society
The West Australian Society of Arts is thrilled to invite you to Wattle Day 2025 with three exciting opportunities for artists and the community to get involved!
This Wattle Day promises to be a vibrant celebration of art and community, and we can’t wait to see you there!
Location and Parking
The City of South Perth Historical Society is located at Heritage House, 111 Mill Point Rd, South Perth (opposite the Windsor Hotel). Parking is available throughout South Perth, but most require a ticket.

1. Wattle Day Plein Air Competition
Time: Arrive: 8.00 am – 8.30 am, Start: 9.00 am – 1.00 pm
Bring your paints and creativity into the heart of South Perth! This year, local businesses are opening their doors to host artists, and a full list of participating venues will be provided on the day.
Judging: 3.30 pm Close: 4.00 pm Open to members and non-members
Entry: Members $15 | Non-members $25
Prizes:
- 1st Prize – $500
- Highly Commended – $250
- People’s Choice – $250
You are welcome to sell your artwork on the day (please arrange your own payment system). Remember to bring an easel to display your work for judging.

2. Live Portrait Competition – Old Mill Theatre
Time: Arrive: 11.30, Start: 12.00 pm – 3.00 pm
Exclusive to WASA Members
Judging: 3.30 pm, Close: 4.00 pm
Step inside the Old Mill Theatre for our live portrait competition, featuring two well-known South Perth identities: Pierre Sequeira and Geoff Baker MLA as sitters.
Prizes:

- 1st Prize – $800
- People’s Choice – $200
The winning portrait will be presented to the sitter. Artists may also negotiate a price with the sitters if they wish to purchase their portrait.

3. WASA Art Sales – Marquee Space
We’re delighted to offer a small space in the marquee for up to 8 WASA members to sell their work directly to the public.
Guidelines:

- Space is limited – bookings essential. Email: vp@waart.org.au
- Artwork should be unframed and presented in clear packaging to prevent damage.
- No commission will be taken by WASA.
- Artists must provide their own payment system and handle all sales directly.
